Communities
Conklin
Where the Jackfish River arrives at Christina Lake is where you’ll find the rural hamlet of Conklin. Located 155 kilometres southeast of Fort McMurray, Conklin is the southernmost community in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo and a prime destination for outdoors enthusiasts.
The overwhelming majority of residents are members of Conklin Métis Local 193 and work hard to preserve the community’s character and culture, enhance residential life, and accommodate the workforce as nearby oil sands developments continue to grow.
For those looking for winter adventures, snowmobiling is a heart-pounding thrill in Conklin. Bring your own sled or rent one in Fort McMurray and trailer it down, then hit the breathtaking trails throughout the boreal forest. If you’re after a quieter outdoor experience, there’s snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, hiking, and fishing. And after a full day in the wilderness, there’s nothing better than unwinding beside the fire.
Whether you’re in the Conklin area for work or pleasure, there’s plenty to keep you busy.
