Syncrude Wood Bison Viewpoint
A visit to the Syncrude Wood Bison Viewpoint is an example of a successful reclamation effort that can be both seen and heard. The wood bison project was introduced in 1993, resulting in over 4,000 hectares of reclaimed land and made a considerable contribution to bison conservation. The project began as a joint venture between Syncrude and Fort McKay First Nation, with a small herd of 30 wood bison introduced onto reclaimed land, and has grown to a herd of 300 strong.
