MacDonald Island Park
Simply put, MacDonald Island Park is one of the largest sport and recreation complexes in North America.
With over half a million square feet of indoor space across two linked complexes—the Suncor Community Leisure Centre and Shell Place—it’s the heartbeat of Fort McMurray. Under one roof, you can swim laps, enjoy an indoor waterpark, work out at the Legacy Dodge Fitness Centre or the High Performance Training Centre, play basketball or volleyball in the multipurpose hard surface fieldhouses, play badminton at the dedicated badminton centre, throw stones on the 8 sheets at the Oil Sands Curling Club, play hockey in one of 2 arenas, and much more!
You can also catch a Fort McMurray Giants baseball game or a Fort McMurray Monarchs football game at Shell Place each summer.
Outdoors, the grounds of MacDonald Island Park offer plenty of opportunity for activities. Situated where the Athabasca and Clearwater rivers come together, the Island is home to the 18-hole Miskanaw Golf Club, a 1.2 km Aboriginal Interpretive walking trail, and the much anticipated McMurray Métis Cultural Centre—scheduled to be completed in 2024.
There’s so much to see and do at MacDonald Island Park, it’s a must-visit on your trip to Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo.
