Located on the Syncrude Loop north of Fort McMurray near Syncrude’s Mildred Lake facility, the Giants of Mining is your chance to get up close to the incredible machines that worked in the oil sands over the years.

Here, you’ll find a decommissioned dragline and bucketwheel excavator that worked at Syncrude over the years - 2 of the largest pieces of equipment you’ll ever get the chance to stand close to. Take our word for it, these enormous machines must be seen to be believed!

This site features informative signs which can teach you about the equipment that once worked in the oil sands, and why it has been decommissioned in favour of more modern technology.
