Fort McMurray Heritage Village

Spend the day experiencing the history of the Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo region - you’re sure to learn something new.

A can’t-miss stop on your museums tour of the region is the Fort McMurray Heritage Village, operated year-round by the Fort McMurray Heritage Society.

This 6.6 acre site contains seventeen historic buildings and a collection of large artifacts, offering an opportunity to experience Fort McMurray as it was in the past. Displays depict the days before this community was internationally recognized as an energy hub, with stories from the vibrant days of fur trading, lumbering, fishing, early aviation, life on the rivers, as well as some of the incredible people who have called this community home over the years.

The gift shop stocks some locally-made products, books, and unique souvenirs - and don’t miss their famous Christmas Market each holiday season.
