Drivable Day Trips

Looking for a great spot for a fun day of fishing with easy access for shore fishing or launching your boat?

Engstrom Lake

One of the best family fishing holes in the region, Engstrom Lake is regularly stocked with rainbow trout. Open from June to September, Engstrom Lake Provincial Recreation Area features a boat launch, though boat motors are restricted to a maximum of 9.9 hp/7.5 kW. Overnight camping and campfires are prohibited. The lake is also open for ice fishing in the winter.

Willow Lake

A popular spot for fishing year-round and recreation on the water, Willow Lake is a large lake with multiple boat launch access points. Boat launches can be found at Gregoire Lake Provincial Park, Windsurfers Beach, and the Anzac Day Use Area. It’s common to see people ice fishing on the lake in the winter.

Texaco Pond & Texaco East Pond

These two small, square ponds are located a short drive from Fort McMurray, just past the Fort McMurray International Airport along Saprae Creek Trail. Alberta Environment & Parks regularly stock these ponds with rainbow trout, so go and try your luck!
