Region wins awards for community developed Place Brand

Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo is getting noticed on a provincial level.

Fort McMurray, AB – As stewards of the community Place Brand, Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development & Tourism (FMWBEDT) is honoured to accept awards from Economic Developers of Alberta (EDA) and the Advertising Club of Edmonton (ACE) on behalf of the region. These awards recognize and celebrate the uniqueness, creativity and authenticity of our community-wide place brand.

“This is exciting recognition for the region because of the time invested by the community in making the place brand real and true to us,” says Kevin Weidlich, President & CEO of FMWBEDT. “As we begin to share the place brand outside of our region, these awards begin to demonstrate that together we will change the reputation of Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo.”

We received an Award of Excellence from EDA that recognizes the integrated launch of our region’s place brand which included our digital community toolkit (WeAreFMWB.ca), our in-region marketing campaign (The place we’re proud to call home) and targeted workshops. The Award of Distinction from ACE also recognized our in-region marketing campaign, and specifically our Direct Marketing piece, the regional viewfinder frame that encouraged the community to get out and share what makes our place home to them.

“Congratulations to Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development & Tourism on winning an EDA Award of Excellence in the Community Economic Development category, presented during our recent Awards Ceremony,” says Leann Hackman-Carty, CEO of Economic Developers of Alberta. “This award publicly recognizes the team on its outstanding efforts in place branding through their ‘Introducing Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo’ campaign.”

“Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo’s image and reputation is the result of thousands of influences over a long-time horizon; these awards are one influence that gets our region noticed on a provincial level. Let’s continue to champion the place brand forward together,” adds Weidlich.
