Fort McMurray – Tourism, Wood Buffalo Economic Development Corporation (WBEDC), is having an outstanding response to the Calling All Photographers campaign launched to collect imagery of the adventure, experience and beauty found within the Wood Buffalo region. The campaign will continue through the summer to acquire more photographs highlighting our region’s tourism opportunities.

With hundreds of submissions, WBEDC has selected its first round of photos from over a dozen professional and amateur photographers. Some of the selected photos showcase classic landscapes of the Horse River, the Northern Lights dancing over Gregoire Lake and a variety of favoured Northern Alberta outdoor activities shown throughout the seasons. To learn more about the photos selected and the stories behind them visit explorewoodbuffalo.photos/stories.html.

“The photos we have received bring our region’s stories to life - showcasing it’s natural beauty and the adventurous opportunities our big backyard has to offer,” says Michael Sieger, Vice President of Tourism for WBEDC. “With the quality and regional distinctiveness of the photos we have received to date, all we can say is keep them coming please!”

Annie Simard, a resident who had her photo selected, captured her daughter playing with her hands full of mud under the Saline Creek Footbridge in Waterways.

“I am extremely honoured that this photo was selected,” shared Simard. “I took the picture last summer, under the new Waterways bridge on the Hangingstone River. It is one of our favourite places to play and explore.”

To be a part of telling our region’s story to the world, we encourage all professional and amateur photographers to share their photos using the #ExploreWoodBuffalo hashtag and upload their sample shots to explorewoodbuffalo.photos. Selected entries will receive payment and there are no limitations to the number of photos submitted.
