2021 Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship Golf Tournament

The 34th annual Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship is coming to Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo August 24-27, 2021. At the tournament, Canada’s top male amateur golfers, aged 25 and over, will compete for a national title. The tournament will be played at the Fort McMurray Golf Club and will be the first national championship event hosted in the region since the COVID-19 pandemic began in March 2020.

Well-known and respected artists Crystal Mercredi and Lucas Seaward will tour from Fort Fitzgerald to Conklin this August to capture the unique landscapes, peoples and cultures in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo.

Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development & Tourism (FMWBEDT), in partnership with regional stakeholders, will present the 2021 regional labour study findings to the community on Wednesday, August 4, 2021. The study provides a five-year forecast of labour market needs - highlighting future training requirements, hiring demands and attraction and retention practices.

Keyano College and Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development & Tourism partner to expand the attraction of international students

Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development & Tourism (FMWBEDT) is joining forces with Keyano College to recruit and retain more international students to the region. The partnership will deliver several new initiatives to grow the number of international students at the College by over 70 percent through a multi-year funding agreement. The anticipated growth in international students is expected to have an annual economic impact of over $3 million for Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo.

Mentorship Opportunity for Local Entrepreneurs

Startup YMM and Northeastern Alberta Aboriginal Business Association (NAABA) have partnered to launch a pilot mentorship program in the region and are currently seeking applications from entrepreneurs interested in being mentored. The pilot program, Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo – Venture Mentoring Services (FMWB-VMS) is based on a proven model developed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (better known as MIT) which has over 100 sister programs across the world!
