Abasand
The neighbourhood of Abasand has 2 schools, including the region’s only all-French school, so it’s perfect for those families with children. Surrounded by trails and nature, this neighbourhood is mostly residential.
Beacon Hill
Located in the south of Fort McMurray is the neighbourhood of Beacon Hill. This area is known for its close proximity to nature, featuring walking trails, 2 elementary schools, and parks.
Lower Townsite
This neighbourhood, locally referred to as Downtown, is home to the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre and an assisted living centre. In addition, Franklin Avenue runs right through Lower Townsite, providing plenty of different amenities including hardware stores, restaurants, the Peter Pond Mall, many hotels and much more.
Thickwood
One of the larger neighbourhoods, Thickwood is centrally located. Most of the amenities in this area can be found in the eastern part of the neighbourhood, with small strip malls, restaurants, schools, and shops found throughout.
Timberlea
This northern neighbourhood is the most populous in the region and has a number of schools, shops, restaurants, and services. For those needing access to the downtown core, it is a short 15-minute drive away.
Wood Buffalo
One of the lusher neighbourhoods is that of Wood Buffalo Estates. This western neighbourhood features Wood Buffalo Park, which has playgrounds, a spray park, soccer fields, as well as some unpaved trails.
